Greetings, fellow music lovers and festival enthusiasts! I’m Karen Brem, the Marketing Director for the New Orleans Guest House, and I am beyond thrilled to invite you to one of the most anticipated events of the year: the Satchmo SummerFest! Mark your calendars for August 3rd and 4th, 2024, because this is a celebration you won’t want to miss.
Honoring a Jazz Legend
Satchmo SummerFest, presented by the New Orleans Tourism and Culture Fund, is a vibrant, two-day festival dedicated to honoring the legendary Louis Armstrong, affectionately known as “Satchmo.” This annual event, set in the heart of the French Quarter on the grounds of the old New Orleans Mint (now the New Orleans Jazz Museum at 400 Esplanade Ave.), brings together music lovers from around the world to celebrate the life and legacy of one of jazz music’s greatest icons.
A Melodic Tribute
The festival features two stages of live music, showcasing the very best of New Orleans’ jazz scene. Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Armstrong’s music or a newcomer to the world of jazz, you’ll find something to tap your toes to. The lineup includes a mix of traditional jazz, swing, and contemporary sounds, ensuring that there’s a melody for everyone.
A Culinary Delight
But the Satchmo SummerFest isn’t just about the music—oh no, it’s a full-blown cultural experience! Prepare your taste buds for a culinary journey through Louisiana’s finest cuisine. Our local restaurants will be serving up mouth-watering dishes that capture the essence of our vibrant food scene. From savory jambalaya to sweet beignets, there will be plenty of delicious options to keep you fueled for the festivities.
Learn and Discover
For those who want to dive deeper into the life and times of Louis Armstrong, the festival also features an indoor lecture series. These informative sessions will cover various aspects of Armstrong’s incredible career and his enduring impact on the world of music. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into the man behind the music and understand why he remains such a beloved figure to this day.
A Celebration of History
Did you know that the first Satchmo SummerFest took place in 2001 to celebrate what would have been Louis Armstrong’s 100th birthday? That same year, the New Orleans airport was renamed Louis Armstrong International Airport in his honor. The festival has since evolved into one of the top annual celebrations in our city, drawing visitors from near and far to revel in the joyous spirit of Satchmo.
