Coming this December!!!

Stunning Christmas in City Park

Hello, holiday seekers and festive fun lovers! Karen Brem here, the marketing director over at the New Orleans Guest House. Now, if you’re anything like me, when the holidays roll around, you’re ready to embrace the magic, the lights, and, of course, the festive foods that make New Orleans the place to be. This year, one of the biggest and brightest events on our city’s calendar is just around the corner: Celebration in the Oaks at City Park!

And guess what? If you’re planning to experience this dazzling spectacle, we’ve got a clean, affordable home base right across the street from the lively French Quarter (with a streetcar stop conveniently at our door, because who doesn’t love a good ride?). The New Orleans Guest House is the perfect spot for you to crash after a full day of holiday fun. But I digress…let me tell you about the magic that is Celebration in the Oaks!

A Tradition Like No Other

For over 30 years, Celebration in the Oaks has been a beloved holiday tradition in New Orleans, and it’s not hard to see why. Every year, City Park transforms into a glittering winter wonderland, featuring millions of twinkling lights that make our already beautiful park look like something straight out of a fairytale. Picture this: majestic oak trees—some over 800 years old—draped in radiant light, casting a warm, enchanting glow over the entire park. It’s truly a sight to behold.

But it’s not just the lights that make this event special. This annual celebration is the single largest fundraising event of the year for City Park, which is home to over 1,300 acres of natural beauty, cultural landmarks, and plenty of space for fun events all year round. The funds raised through this spectacular event are essential for maintaining the park’s beauty, ensuring its continued use as a community space, and helping to preserve the history of those iconic oaks.

A Perfect Blend of Fun and Festivity

Whether you’re a long-time New Orleanian or a first-time visitor, Celebration in the Oaks is one of those events that everyone can enjoy. There are two main ways to experience the magic—walking tours and driving tours.

The Driving Tour

For those who prefer a more leisurely experience (and let’s be real, who doesn’t love a good car ride when the weather’s perfect?), the driving tour is your best bet. It’s a simple, relaxing way to enjoy all the lights from the comfort of your vehicle. The tour starts at the Morning Call in the park, where you can sip on some café au lait and beignets before setting off. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour, giving you plenty of time to take in the views of those gorgeous lit-up oaks, festive displays, and some fun surprises along the way. The cost? It’s just $15 per car, which is an absolute steal for such an enchanting experience!

The Walking Tour

Now, if you’re in the mood for a little more adventure (or a few extra holiday calories to work off), the walking tour is the way to go. The walking tour gives you an all-access pass to both the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park and the Botanical Garden. Trust me, you’ll want to bring your camera. With 18 rides to choose from, it’s like a throwback to the nostalgic days of childhood amusement, with the added bonus of glittering lights everywhere you look. And for those with a more serene side, the Botanical Garden is absolutely breathtaking, with beautiful plants, fountains, and, of course, the twinkling lights that make everything extra magical. It’s an evening you’ll never forget!

Make a Weekend of It!
