Coming this Mardi Gras Season!!!
Y’all, it’s that time of year again—the moment we’ve been waiting for since last Mardi Gras! New Orleans is officially putting on its party pants (sequined, of course) and throwing open the gates to Mardi Gras 2025 today. Whether you’re a local or just lucky enough to be in town, it’s time to jump headfirst into the glittery, feathered, king cake-filled madness.
As the marketing director for the charming New Orleans Guest House, located just one short block from the French Quarter, I have a front-row seat to all the action—and you could, too! Our fabulous location lets you walk to all the fun, or hop on the streetcar just steps from our front door to glide to the hottest Mardi Gras events around. Let’s talk about today’s kickoffs because honey, these aren’t just parades—they’re experiences!
Phunny Phorty Phellows Parade: The Carnival’s Rowdy Opening Act
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: Carrollton Streetcar Line
The Phunny Phorty Phellows (PPP for those in the know) are the self-proclaimed “heralds of Carnival,” and baby, they live up to the title. These merry pranksters hop aboard a vintage streetcar at the Willow Street Car Barn and take to the tracks, tossing beads, playing music, and spreading that first glittery layer of Mardi Gras cheer. It’s a spectacle that’s as quirky as it is classic.
And the best part? The PPP parade rides the streetcar line, meaning this rolling party winds its way along St. Charles Avenue. Whether you’re perched under an ancient oak or chasing the streetcar in your party shoes, you won’t want to miss this zany celebration of all things Carnival.
The Funky Uptown Krewe: Jazz It Up, Baby!
Time: 7:15 PM
Location: Carrollton and St. Charles Avenue
Right after the Phunny Phorty Phellows rolls out, the Funky Uptown Krewe turns up the dial on Carnival fun. If PPP is the appetizer, the Funky Uptown Krewe is the main course with a big ol’ helping of soul on the side.
This krewe dances its way down the tracks alongside the St. Charles streetcar line, bringing brass bands, funky beats, and a whole lot of pizzazz to Uptown New Orleans. This is where locals and visitors alike let loose, catch beads, and shake a tail feather to celebrate Mardi Gras season’s glorious kickoff.
Krewe of Joan of Arc: Medieval Meets Mardi Gras
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: French Quarter (starting at Bienville & N. Front Streets)
If you’re a history buff or just love a little medieval flair with your Mardi Gras, the Krewe of Joan of Arc is your jam. This parade honors the Maid of Orleans herself—Joan of Arc—with a procession that’s equal parts reverent and rowdy.
Expect costumes that would make a Renaissance Faire jealous, complete with knights, maidens, and a golden statue of Joan herself leading the charge. The krewe parades through the streets of the French Quarter, passing by landmarks like St. Louis Cathedral, and ends with a sparkling toast in Jackson Square.
Pro tip: If you’ve ever wanted to wear chainmail and call it Mardi Gras fashion, this is your chance.
